nice to meet you!
We're Trenton & Olivia, the husband-and-wife team behind Hodgepodge Studio. We started Hodgepodge in 2023 as a way to connect with our local arts community and share our love of handmade ceramics with others. We love the endless possibilities of pottery and the joy ceramics can bring to the everyday.
We aim to make functional & timeless pottery with a dash of mid-century flair. We're proud to call ourselves midwestern makers, bringing a strong sense of practicality, simplicity, and resourcefulness into everything we do.
We're always trying new things, so follow along to see where we're headed.
our process
We make all of our pieces by hand in our backyard studio in Bloomington, Indiana. Most of our pieces are slipcast, which involves creating a plaster mold from scratch using 3D-prints of our original designs.
what is slipcasting?
Each piece is cast by hand using our bespoke molds. This involves pouring liquid stoneware clay (called slip) into a mold, waiting a bit, and then dumping out the extra clay. The plaster absorbs the water in the clay, and what's left is a soft clay shell that will become the final piece. When it's dry enough to handle, each piece will be cleaned up and sponged by hand before bisque firing.
final touches
After bisque firing, each piece is glazed by hand using a variety of dipping, splattering, and layering techniques. After glaze firing, we carefully test each piece for defects to ensure you get a high-quality, handcrafted ceramic piece to enjoy for years to come.

Trenton McBeath
Co-founder | Design, Production
Trenton's insatiable appetite for new creative endeavors led to the creation of Hodgepodge Studio in 2023. In need of a hobby not involving a screen, Trenton began dabbling with slipcasting in his basement studio. He ended up with too many ceramics and decided to share them with the world. Trenton is always improving his ceramic techniques and honing his craft to make Hodgepodge's products the best they can be.

After 10 years in corporate graphic design, Olivia went full-time with Hodgepodge in 2026. She brings her design & marketing background to Hodgepodge along with her love for retro-inspired decor.
